Cyclist rammed off bike by motorist

Detectives from Merseyside Police are appealing for information following an incident in Stanley Park.

At around 8.30pm on Monday 16 August, reports were received of a 16-year-old boy being rammed off his bicycle by a silver 4×4 vehicle in Stanley Park. The victim sustained injuries to his neck, wrist and hip and was taken to hospital for treatment, but is expected to make a full recovery.

CCTV and witness enquiries have been ongoing to trace the vehicle involved, a silver Mercedes ML 4×4, which was not displaying any number plates. The driver was described as white, scruffy and in his 30s.

Enquiries suggest that the car came from the direction of Stanley Park car park via Priory Road.

Detective Constable Richard Whates said: “This was a distressing experience for the victim, who thankfully didn’t sustain more serious injuries. We’re keeping an open mind as to the motive, but think it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

“We’ve spoken to some witnesses to this incident, but are keen to speak to anyone who either saw what happened, or captured the details of this vehicle on CCTV, dashcam or other devices.

“Given the impact, there will have been some damage to the front of this vehicle, so if you have noticed any similar vehicles with unexplained damage, let us know. To drive through a public park and deliberately into a teenager is appalling, and we’re determined to find the person responsible and put them before the courts.”
