Woman raped in building’s basement

Detectives investigating the rape of a young woman in London have issued images of a man they would like to trace as they appeal for information.

A 22-year-old woman was approached by a man in Hanbury Street, Tower Hamlets at approximately 2:10am on Friday, 9 November.

The man followed her into a building before raping her in the basement of the address.

He then left around 20 minutes later.

The suspect is described as a black man, aged between 25 and 35 years.

He was wearing a dark coloured body warmer which he left behind at the scene of the attack along with a grey hat.

Officers have released an image of the body warmer, which has a distinctive collar and lining.

The suspect was then pictured in a grey jumper after the attack.

The victim is currently being supported by specially trained officers and partner workers.

There have been no arrests at this stage.

The Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command are investigating.
