Police are appealing for witnesses to a racially motivated assault in Tower Hamlets.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, 3 October, three women, all Asian and aged 18 years old, attended Bethnal Green police station to report an assault by an unknown woman.
The women reported that, at approximately 2:55pm that day, they were inside the McDonald’s on Bethnal Green Road when they were racially abused by the suspect.
The three women left the restaurant shortly afterwards and were followed by the suspect to the junction of Roman Road and Victoria Park Square.
The suspect continued to racially abuse the women and then spat at one of them. She then grabbed one of the women by her headscarf and hair, and hit her on the back of the neck three times.
The three women managed to escape and went straight to the police station.
The suspect is described as a black woman, aged around 40 years old. She was wearing gold hooped earrings and a black coat.
Detective Constable Anton Arulnayagam, of Central East Command, said: “This was a distressing incident, which is believed to have been racially motivated.
“We believe the assault was witnessed by a man in his 20s, who attempted to intervene. Officers would like to speak with this man or any other witnesses.”
