Police officer hit with sledgehammer

Police in Barnet are issuing an image of a man they are attempting to trace after an officer was struck with a sledgehammer.

At around 9:30am on Friday, 10 August officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance involving a man armed with a knife at an address in Sunningfields Road, NW4.

Two officers entered the address and were confronted by a male who brandished a sledgehammer and swung it at them.

One officer was struck by the sledgehammer before the man fled.

The officer, a female aged in her mid-30s, was not seriously injured. She is currently recovering at home.

Officers would like to speak to Cayle Lynch, 24, in connection with this incident.

He is known to sleep rough and frequents Sunny Hill Park and Hampstead Heath.

He should not be approached; anyone who sees him should call police immediately on 999 quoting CAD 1981 10 AUG 18.
