Raiders armed with machete and axe

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following an assault in Everton in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 11 July).

At around 1.30am, an occupant of a house in Whitefield Way was disturbed by two offenders who entered the premises, armed with what were described as a machete and an axe and assaulted him, causing serious lacerations to his head and body, before making off.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Forensic, house-to-house and witness enquiries are ongoing, and officers will be in the area to provide reassurance and collect information.

Detective Inspector Judith Blease said: “We believe that this may have been a targeted attack but regardless of this, it was an appalling incident of violence which took place in the victim’s home, and has resulted in serious injuries.

“We know that there will be information within the community as to who was responsible and where they live, so please come forward and we can remove these dangerous and cowardly individuals and their weapons from the streets.”
