Shots fired in residential area

Detectives from Merseyside Police are appealing for information after shots were fired in Halewood last night (Tuesday 3 July).

At around 10.10pm, a call was received reporting gun shots being heard in the area of Mackets Lane. Armed police attended and a gunshot cartridge was found in the street and has been recovered.

Officers remain in the area to carry out house-to-house, forensic and witness enquiries and provide reassurance to the community.

Chief Inspector Sarah Jones said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation and are keen to speak to anyone with information.

“If you live locally or were in the Mackets Lane area and saw or heard any suspicious people or vehicles, let us know. We will act on any information provided. You may choose to speak to local officers or remain anonymous via Crimestoppers, but however you tell us, tell us.

“To fire a weapon in a residential area is incredibly reckless and we remain relentless in our pursuit of those who choose to bring firearms onto the streets of Merseyside.”
