Sexual assault on schoolgirl

Detectives investigating the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in north London have released an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with their investigation.

At approximately 4:20pm on Thursday, 11 January, the schoolgirl was waiting for a bus on Alder Grove in Dollis Hill, NW2 when she was approached by a man who engaged her in conversation. She boarded a Route 182 bus travelling towards Bannister Playing Fields, and the man followed.

The girl stood on the lower deck and the man sat down nearby, attempting to keep the conversation going.

Feeling concerned, the girl got off at the following stop (Brook Road), but the suspect again followed. As she walked along Brook Road, he continued behind her before grabbing her and sexually assaulting her.

The victim screamed and struggled, before running off. She was chased by the suspect, but luckily he was unable to keep up.

Detective Constable Chris Tester, from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command, said: “The young victim is very shaken by this incident and I would appeal to the public to help us identify the man responsible. Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare, but when they do happen it is understandable that there are concerns. Following the incident, extra patrols have been carried out in the area and the public are asked to report any concerns.”

The suspect is described as a black man, over 6ft tall, of medium build, bald, with scars underneath both eyes. He was wearing a gold/yellow jacket and black trousers, and was carrying plastic shopping bags. He spoke with an African accent.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or by tweeting @MetCC quoting CAD 5218/11JAN18.
