Night time assault on woman

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following reports a woman was assaulted in Kirkby on Thursday 11th January.

Officers were contacted at 10pm to reports that a 19 year-old woman had been walking across what is known locally as Tower Hill Bridge, between Headbolt Lane and Roughwood Drive, when she was assaulted by a man and suffered facial injuries.

The man is described as white, in his late teens, 5ft 5in to 5ft 6in tall, of slim to average build. He had strawberry blonde/light brown stubble and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms, black and white striped Nike trainers and a black Berghaus coat with the hood up. The male then walked off in the direction of Headbolt Lane.

An investigation is underway and CCTV, house-to-house and forensic enquiries are being carried out.

Detective Inspector Paul Grounds said: “Thankfully this young woman was not badly injured but was left shaken by her ordeal.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of Tower Hill Bridge who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or saw anyone who recognises the male described to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 1382 or the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
