Victim was stabbed by robber

Detectives investigating the robbery and serious assault of a man in Hyde Park are releasing an e-fit image of the suspect.

On Saturday, 28 October, the 52-year-old victim was walking through the park when at some time between 1.30am and 3.30am he was approached by a man in the Rose Garden area, between the bandstand and Hyde Park Corner entrance, and the pair struck up a conversation. The man seemed upset and the victim tried to comfort him; but suddenly and unexpectedly, he became aggressive and demanded the victim hand over his money and phone.

When he refused, the victim was pushed to the ground, kicked repeatedly, and stabbed in his arm and thigh. The suspect then made off with the victim’s bag, which contained two mobile phones, a wallet and other personal items.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called and the victim was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where he received treatment for his injuries which included a broken arm.

Detective Constable, Gabi Kennedy-Hill, Westminster CID, said: “This was a violent attack which came out of nowhere after the suspect befriended the victim. The ferocity of the kicking caused him to break his arm and he has been left extremely traumatised by the incident. We know that the victim and suspect had spoken to a group of individuals who were sat on benches in the area – near to the fountains – prior to the assault. I would appeal to these individuals; or anyone else with information which could assist the investigation to come forward and help us identify this clearly dangerous individual.”

The suspect is described as black, approximately 30-35 years old, around 1.75m tall, of muscular build, with a round face and big nose, short-shaved afro hair and a full beard and moustache. He was wearing a grey jumper, cream jeans, black trainers and a black cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Westminster CID on 020 7321 7532 or via 101. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
