Merseyside Police Local Policing Chief Inspector Matt Boyle said: “These recoveries mean less firearms on our streets that could be used to cause fear, intimidation or harm to our communities. The semi-automatic weapon in particular would have been extremely dangerous in the wrong hands so we are delighted to have removed it from circulation.

“We will continue to be relentlessly proactive in finding all dangerous weapons using all available tactics. People who attempt to hide firearms in open spaces should be aware that we are putting significant resources into tackling gun crime on a daily basis, and our recent recoveries demonstrate that we will act on any information received to bring weapons off the streets.
