West Midlands Police say mystery surrounds a shooting at a Birmingham takeaway during which a man blasted a hole in the ceiling with a shotgun.
The gunman walked into Chicken.Com in Coventry Road at around 1.45am on Tuesday (26 July) and calmly loaded cartridges into a shotgun.
He fired a single shot into the ceiling as staff fled through a rear exit.
Officers have spoken to the shop’s owners but have so far not been able to determine a motive for the attack.
Detective Sergeant Jim Bennett said: “No-one was injured and at this stage the motive remains unclear. I’d like to hear from anyone who can shed light on why this shooting took place or has any information that could help our enquiry.
“The staff are understandably shaken up at seeing a man walk into the shop with a shotgun; discharging a firearm in public is totally unacceptable and we need to get hold of this man as soon as possible.
“We believe he arrived and left the area on foot. We’re trawling CCTV in the hope it will provide more clues.
“I’m appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call me on the 101 number or speak to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
The man is described as Asian and was wearing a puffa style jacket and dark clothing; he ran out of the shop towards Small Heath Park.
Anyone with information is urged to call officers in the Violent Crime Team at Chelmsley Wood police station on the 101 number. Alternatively information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
