A 17-year-old youth was in the underpass under the metro tracks when he was approached from behind by a man who threatened him with a knife and demanded cash.
The teenager handed over an amount of cash and the offender made off unseen.
Neighbourhood Inspector Ray Smith said: “We’re asking for any witnesses to come forward and would ask anyone who was in the area, or who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to contact police.
“We also have neighbourhood officers on patrol in the area to reassure residents.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1193 of 30/05/16 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
